Experience
As a tutor, I firmly believe that all students are capable of learning and bettering themselves. For this to occur, students must be motivated to participate and focus on their education. The teacher's job is to show the student the value of knowledge. In my experiences as a tutor, I do this by engaging my students in order to spark their interest in the classroom material. More specifically, I enjoy helping students with their reading and writing skills. I view these abilities as tools that can open up countless opportunities. Reading and writing are important to learning because words are the medium through which all knowledge must pass. Before a student can comprehend simple ideas, they must be able to read the words that transmit those ideas. My tutoring experience spans across ten years of helping middle, elementary, and high school students. I have worked with students in the Orton-Gillingham and Wilson programs for reading. I earned my certification to teach special education as well as my state reading endorsement. I have worked with students at almost all levels on their math, writing, and reading skills. I have become an expert at accommodating the learning needs of various students. My hobbies include running, gardening, and home decorating.
